What others want you to know...

25 years ago I got onto a plane, flew from Germany to the US, and started what would become one my greatest adventures in life!

Little luggage did I have: 1 suitcase, which TWA managed to loose, one carry-on, a hat and only very basic knowledge of the English language. 4 Months of being an exchange student were lying ahead of me, with a family I did not know, a country I had never been to, a language I did not fully speak...

When I was picked up at the airport, the family made sure that I had a very warm welcome and within hours they made me feel at home and being part of their family.

I went to school, I jobbed locally, I participated in family activities, met with other exchange students and all in all had the time of my life! Those memories no one will ever be able to take away from me. I lost the fear of travelling and learning languages, meeting strangers, dealing with unknown situations - that trip positively changed me for good!

Now, 25 years later, after many visits back and forth I am still "in love" with my US host family. I have seen the 2 year old twins grow up and get married, my host-mother became a grandmother, and our families are still very close. I am just waiting for the day, when my girls are old enough to board a plane and start a journey that might just become their greatest adventure in life!
